Around London
Rather important museum railway line was installed at the disused section of the London Underground. Within last century it used to continue fromthe present terminal station in Epping down to Ongar terminal. Service was discontinued due to low number of passengers. Group of enthusiasts had madeit serviceable with regular steam and diesel engine traction. The line is in operation on weekends from spring to autumn time. Major advantage of the location is a direct connection to the London Underground. While trail connection to the Epping station is not functional transport to the first station of North Weald is operated by historical buses. There is also North Weald Airfield Museum within the nice walk range and close to Ongar is another interesting monument -Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker.
Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway
The railway line used to be a part of the former Great Western Railway branch line between Watlington and Princes Risborough. Commissioned into operation on 15th August 1872 and taken over by GWR in poor shape on 1st July 1883. British Railways discontinued public transport on the line in 1957. The section between Chinnor and Princes Risborough later operated in cargo transport until 1989. This section was handed over to Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway Association in January 1990 and they were awarded a public transport licence on 4th July 1994. Rail line operation was resumed from 26th July 1994. Two extensions included into operation system during next two years and the railway line is currently operated in that shape.
Cholsey & Wallingford
Enjoy a Heritage train ride on our rural branchline that was first opened in 1866. Our line runs through the beautiful countryside of South Oxfordshire and links the historic riverside town of Wallingford with GWR trains at Cholsey. Travel on our 1950s coaches, hauled by one of our Heritage diesels locomotives or by a visiting steam engine.
On your journey, look out for Cholsey Church, where Agatha Christie is buried, and perhaps spot the magnificent Red Kites, that are often seen flying across our line. Our line links the national railway network at Cholsey, with the historic market town of Wallingford, Oxfordshire. Wallingford and the River Thames are 10 minutes walk away where you will find Castle ruins, a Museum and a selection of shops, restaurants and pubs. Trains run on selected weekends and bank holidays throughout the year and, where available, are steam hauled. Known locally as "The Bunk", passenger services ceased in 1959. Having secured the line in 1981, the CWR Preservation Society now aims to enhance the facilities that the railway offers and to improve our Wallingford site.
